What is a fire assembly point?

You should display a fire assembly point sign to identify the assembly point in case of an emergency on your site.

Fire assembly points are required by law in many jurisdictions. In the United Kingdom, for example, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires employers to designate a fire assembly point for their workplace.

When choosing a fire assembly point, it is important to consider the following factors:

• Safety: The fire assembly point should be located in a safe area away from the fire and any other hazards, such as electrical wires, falling debris, or traffic.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) also recommends that fire assembly point signs be:

• At least 200mm in height: This will ensure that the sign is large enough to be easily seen.
• Made from a reflective material: This will make the sign more visible at night and in low light conditions.
• Placed in prominent locations where employees are likely to see them: This includes near exits, in common areas, and along evacuation routes.
